We have a great line-up of speakers – and are looking forward to a riveting and informative discussion about women’s entrepreneurship, and the policy makers and efforts that have contributed to the unprecedented growth in recent years.

Please join the National Women’s Business Council for a celebration of women’s entrepreneurship, and the policy makers and efforts that have contributed to the unprecedented growth in recent years.

The data confirms the Council’s thesis that women-owned & and women-led businesses are resilient, vibrant contributors to their communities; they are creating jobs and strengthening the economy — even amidst the worst financial crisis we have seen in a generation. Among women-owned firms, the post-recession growth has been very strong: a 26.8% increase in the number of women-owned firms between 2007 and 2012, compared to a 20.1% increase from 2002 to 2007 – a difference of nearly 7 percentage points. Thanks to a combination of supportive initiatives and policies and a strong entrepreneurial spirit – there are more and more women-owned and women-led businesses today than ever before.

Women’s appetite for entrepreneurship is at an all-time high and the key players are working, and in many cases collaborating, to open doors, increase access, and both empower and enable women to succeed. Today, we have a Congress that is proposing bipartisan legislation in support of women’s entrepreneurship, a White House committed to the empowerment of women and girls, and a U.S. Small Business Administration focused on achieving the 5% federal procurement goal for women-owned businesses. Notably, we also have a growing cadre of corporations diversifying with billions of dollars of corporate spend to women-owned businesses and the market is responding with innovative and alternative strategies for capital and market access.

The program will include an overview of the progress made in the last decade, highlighting the policy makers and policy initiatives that have improved the business climate for women. Administration representatives will share related announcements. The program will also include remarks from the Council Chair, Carla Harris, and updates on the Council’s research portfolio and programming, including the results from a comprehensive analysis of the most recent Survey of Business Owners. The meeting will take place in Washington, DC, the Nation’s capital and a city with one of the highest percentages of women-owned businesses.

The event will be livestreamed. Details will be provided upon RSVP.

We hope you can join us.
