In celebration of Women’s History Month, the women of the National Women’s Business Council (NWBC) are kicking off the month with a story-telling project to highlight and share honest advice, important truths and inspiring stories from women entrepreneurs.
The National Women’s Business Council is thrilled to see the important provision of sole source authority given to the Women Owned Small Business (WOSB) Federal Contracting Program included in the final text of the National Defense Authorization Act, signed by Congress on December 12, 2014. This provision is a top priority for the Council.

The National Women’s Business Council is thrilled to see the important provision of giving authority for sole source contracts in the WOSB Procurement Program included in the final text of the National Defense Authorization Act. This provision has been a top priority for the Council as we work to ensure that all government agencies meet their 5% procurement goals for women-led and women-owned businesses.

The federal government has met its 23% small business procurement goal for the first time since 2005. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has released the FY2013 Small Business Procurement Scorecard, reporting that 23.39% of all contracts or $83.1 billion of all federal small business eligible contracting dollars were awarded to small businesses for fiscal year 2013.
