For those of you also new to the National Women’s Business Council, let me formally introduce ourselves. The Council’s mission and mandate since its creation in 1988 has been to direct independent research, drive initiatives, educate and make recommendations on policies and programs that support women’s small business enterprises. Through our statutory mandate and bipartisan relationships, we have a listening ear in the president, Congress, and the U.S. Small Business Administration. In the past year alone, we have filled all 15 Council seats with dynamic, diverse and engaged women, all committed to fulfilling NWBC’s vision and mandate.
We’ve held three public meetings and attended numerous events, seminars, and roundtables. Individually, Council members served as keynote speakers, panelists, and moderators at more than 30 events in more than a dozen states. We also have moved forward on a strategic research agenda that will yield bipartisan and independent policy and program recommendations that will foster growth. I encourage you to visit our website’s research page to learn more. As we continue to work together to recharge our national economy, it will require unlocking small business innovation and high growth from Main Street to Wall Street, as well as suburban to rural America. Women will play a key role in this task.
These are challenging times, filled with tremendous opportunity. Please be sure to sign up for our email updates so we can keep you posted on all of our activities to help women entrepreneurs. As our NWBC leadership team settles in, we look forward to working with you and others who share the vision of engaging and economically empowering women business owners across our nation.
