NATIONAL WOMEN’S BUSINESS COUNCIL ANNOUNCES NEWLY APPOINTED CHAIR AND FINAL PUBLIC MEETING OF 2023
WASHINGTON, D.C. – (August 30, 2023) – The National Women’s Business Council (NWBC), is pleased to announce that Sima Ladjevardian has been appointed by President Biden to serve as Chair of the Council. Chair Ladjevardian will join Council Members at an in-person public meeting on Wednesday, September 13th, from 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM EDT at the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C.
Lawyer, immigrant, activist, business owner, and mom are just a few of the titles Chair Ladjevardian holds on top of her new title of Chair of NWBC. Having fled Iran during the revolution at the age of 12, Chair Ladjevardian knows firsthand how it feels to achieve the American dream of business ownership. She has seen the obstacles and opportunities women face in entrepreneurship for herself and is dedicated to creating a more inclusive path to leadership for any who choose to follow in her footsteps.
“I am so looking forward to working to support NWBC’s agenda in pursuit of lifting up women and advancing women’s entrepreneurship and presence in the business world,” shared Chair Ladjevardian.
“It is an honor to have an inspiring woman like Sima Ladjevardian at the helm of this Council,” said Tené Dolphin, Executive Director of NWBC. “Between her work in the private and public sectors, she brings a wealth of expertise and experience that will enable her to elevate the voice of America’s 12 million women business owners to new heights.”
Most recently, Chair Ladjevardian served as a Regional Director for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In this role, she acted as HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra’s representative and was responsible for guiding and coordinating HHS policy initiatives as they related to state, local, and tribal governments in Region 6 covering Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas, as well as 68 federally recognized tribal nations. As a part of this work, she regularly connected with women from rural and underserved communities on issues relating to access to childcare, eldercare, healthcare, and broadband.
Chair Ladjevardian’s first official act as Chair of NWBC will be providing remarks during the Council’s September Public Meeting. The meeting will allow Council Members to recap engagements from the past year and deliberate policy recommendations before a public audience. SBA Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman will be opening the meeting with remarks of her own while Council Members will close the meeting out by answering audience questions.
