The National Women’s Business Council (NWBC) is a non-partisan federal advisory council created to serve as an independent source of advice and counsel to the President, Congress, and the U.S. Small Business Administration on economic issues of importance to women business owners.

 

We are looking for three talented, driven and curious college/university or graduate students, who have a can-do attitude, approach work with vigor and determination, learn quickly and work effectively in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, for a Fall Fellowship beginning mid-August through mid-December.

Fall Fellows will work with a team of experts on issues of women and entrepreneurship and contribute to and gain skills in many areas including:

– Research and data analysis

– Synthesizing findings and developing issue briefs

– Developing and executing communications and social media strategy

– Developing and executing creative strategies

Fall Fellows will be responsible for daily/weekly tasks and completing a culminating project they can use in their portfolio or resume. The Fellow will be managed by and work closely with the staff. Assignments could include: Analysis of Shark Tank data – participation, performance, and investment to women; Updates to Fact Sheets and other materials; Creation of Issue Briefs or Fact Sheets on women entrepreneurs, related/relevant issues, and impact; Curating, drafting, or editing content for the NWBC social media channels; Drafting Press Releases; Event Support; Support with the Redesign of the Organizational Website; Graphic Design; Contact Management; Research to support Talking Points, Op-Eds, and Speeches.

The program will also include leadership and professional development programming and mentorship opportunities.

A successful candidate will:

  • Be a team player with a positive attitude; good sense of humor is a plus!
  • Have strong critical skills and attention to detail
  • Have proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint; as well as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn; and have a willingness to learn other software/programs.
  • Have proven and highly effective organizational and communication (both written and oral) skills
  • Have an ability to multitask and shift priorities, and work under tight deadlines
  • Be committed to the organizational mission

**If you have completed coursework in statistics and have proficiency with statistical software (Stata preferred) from either coursework or another internship, there are research opportunities available; please let us know if you are interested. Potential projects include: Analysis of the SBA’s Small Business Investment Company program and the performance of women-led funds or Analysis of the Census Bureau’s Survey of Business Owners.

This fellowship is unpaid, based in Washington, DC, and requires a minimum commitment of 30 hours per week and can be used for college credit. The attire is generally business casual; advance notice will be given for the few exceptions. We have a steadfast, collaborative and no-drama work setting.
