Today, more than 300 women gathered this afternoon for the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee’s hearing on women-owned businesses, filling the largest Senate hearing room to capacity. The National Women’s Business Council released the following statement:

“When women succeed, America succeeds. It’s simple economics,” said NWBC Chair Carla Harris. “Our legislators are on point to continue to address the unique challenges facing women business owners and entrepreneurs, and to work to remove the barriers women face when trying to get the support, training, and funding they need to start and grow successful businesses. I’m thrilled that this conversation is taking place – much can be done and the timing could not be better to act now.”

“I applaud SBA Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet for delivering a passionate testimony to the Senate Committee members. I also want to thank the many other witnesses that shared their stories and put a real face to women business ownership in our country, including Barbara Corcoran for her candid perspective of both the challenges and opportunities awaiting women entrepreneurs.”

“I join these women, my fellow Council Members, and many more advocates, in support of Congress’ reauthorization of the invaluable Women’s Business Center program, in providing parity for women contractors by granting sole source authority to the Women-Owned Small Business Procurement program, and enhancing SBA’s microloan program.”

The National Women’s Business Council (NWBC) continues to be a leading voice on issues impacting women entrepreneurs.
