  • In October 2009, the members of the National Women’s Business Council sent a letter to President Obama, SBA Administrator Karen Mills, and key members of Congress outlining principles which emerged from the discussions at the Council’s September 30th summit on health care reform. The Council’s letter elaborates on the four primary health care reform principles that emerged from the discussions: accessibility, affordability, portability, and wellness. The letter concludes by urging the inclusion of the four principles as policymakers move closer to formulating new health care reform legislation.

  • 2009 International Council for Small Business Best Paper Award for Women’s Entrepreneurship - In June 2009, the National Women's Business Council and the International Council for Small Business presented a best paper award to Muhammad Azam Roomi of the University of Bedfordshire’s Centre for Women’s Enterprise for his paper, “Entrepreneurial Capital, Social Values and Islamic Traditions: Growth of Women-owned Enterprises in Pakistan.”

    The Council commented on a related rule in February.

  • In October 2008, the National Women’s Business Council submitted a letter to the U.S. Small Business Administration in response to its newest proposed rule affecting the women-owned business federal contract assistance procedures. In the letter, Council Chair Carole Jean Jordan states that, due to time restrictions, the Council is unable to offer a sound recommendation to the question of which data set, the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) or the Census Bureau’s Survey of Business Owners (SBO), will provide the soundest basis to identify industries in which women-owned businesses are underrepresented in Federal procurement.

    The Council commented on a related rule in February.
  • 2008 International Council for Small Business Best Paper Award for Women’s Entrepreneurship - In June 2008, the National Women's Business Council and the International Council for Small Business presented a best paper award to Dr. Maura McAdams of Queen’s University, Belfast in Northern Ireland and Professor Susan Marlow of De Montfort University in Leicester for their paper, “The Business Incubator and the Female High Technology Entrepreneur: A Perfect Match?.”
  • In November 2006, the National Women’s Business Council sent a letter to the Federal Reserve Board conveying its concern in the Board’s decision to stop producing the Survey of Small Business Finances, which studies the various sources of financing sought and used by small businesses, with breakdowns by gender and ethnicity. Additional comments were submitted in May 2006.
